Exploring the Purdue Teacher Education Program: Focus on Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice

During this time of heightened awareness social injustices via Black Lives Matter protests, the #MeToo movement, and COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to ensure that teacher preparation curriculum includes attention knowledge skills related justice issues in education. Th e purpose study was investigate ways which justice, diversity, equity are addressed foundational courses Purdue Teacher Education Program (PTEP). McDonald (2005) proposed a framework integrated across all experiences (e.g., courses, activities, clinical placements) education program. In an analysis PTEP, we found each required course referenced and/or equity, albeit varying degrees, including practical applications these ideas. her framework, recommended conceptual tools justice. such differentiation, Universal Design for Learning, culturally responsive teaching) incorporated multiple through readings assignments. investigation, used curricular analyses, faculty input, student identify nature references program curricula, also highlight productive connections begin foundations could be continued into methods later With better understanding personnel can both enhance opportunities their own as well capitalize on offered other courses.
